DEXLIT ULTRA

DEXLIT ULTRA heated and cooled yacht decks

The world’s first fluid-cooled and heated yacht deck. Patent pending.

DEXLIT ULTRA combines RGBW lighting and interactive sensors with a fluid circuit built inside the deck modules. Cool the surface during hot conditions or warm it when the temperature drops, with separate zones controlled to suit the areas in use.

The lighting and temperature functions can operate independently. Every installation is sized around the vessel, deck area and available heating and cooling equipment.

Seasonal comfort

More comfortable deck use through the seasons

Deck surfaces can exceed 70°C (158°F) in direct sunlight, making barefoot use uncomfortable. In cooler conditions, a cold surface can also limit the time people want to spend outside.

ULTRA addresses both conditions through one fluid circuit. Its dielectric heat-transfer fluid passes through channels inside the modules, transferring heat to or from the surface through equipment selected for the installation.

The system is designed to support more comfortable deck use in summer and extend use into spring, fall and winter. Actual performance depends on the surface, conditions and thermal equipment.

Cooling

Deck cooling for exposed areas

In cooling mode, the system removes heat through the deck’s internal fluid channels. A mixing system allows individual zones to be controlled separately, so areas such as the bathing platform can be treated independently.

Cooling can be provided through an appropriate seawater heat exchanger or reversible marine chiller. Equipment selection depends on conditions, the deck area and the required performance.

Heating

Warmth for cooler mornings and evenings

The same circuit can warm the deck using a suitable heat source. Options include engine waste heat through a heat exchanger, a shore-power heating element or a diesel water heater.

Heating can be operated without switching on the deck lighting. Zone control allows the installation to serve selected areas rather than treating the entire deck as one setting.

Equipment

Thermal equipment specified for the vessel

ULTRA requires a thermal unit and fluid lines in addition to its deck modules and CUBE controls. Supporting equipment is housed away from the walking surface, leaving no visible equipment on deck.

A diesel water heater may be specified at around 5 kW (17,061 BTU/h). Compact cooling units can be approximately 4.7–7.9 kW (16,037–26,956 BTU/h) for smaller boats, while larger yacht chiller systems can provide approximately 10–35 kW (34,121–119,425 BTU/h) per unit.

These are equipment-capacity examples, not promises of electrical consumption. The final arrangement is sized to the project and can work with common marine equipment manufacturers.

Lighting and controls

The full PRO lighting system, with temperature control

ULTRA includes the RGBW lighting, scenes, animations and sensors available with DEXLIT PRO. Touch, vibration, music and motion responses can be incorporated alongside the heating and cooling functions.

Lighting is managed through the DEXLIT CUBE. Temperature can be controlled through the app or a supplied control panel, with separately controllable thermal zones planned for the installation.

Construction

Plan the construction from the start

ULTRA starts from 22 mm (0.87 in) and is typically 22–24 mm (0.87–0.94 in) including the surface. Approximate weight is 27–30 kg/m² (5.53–6.14 lb/ft²), so the added construction must be included in the vessel’s installation and refit assessment.

Space is required for the thermal unit, fluid lines and electrical connections. The deck substrate, thresholds, hatches and drainage are checked alongside the surface and light-pattern design.
